Last Day
Today was the last day of school. (Pause for the celebration dance...)
The kids left at one, and instead of getting to go home when they did, I had to clean up my room and put everything away before I started the last day of school rituals required by the district. Our work day is supposed to be tomorrow (yes, on a Saturday), and none of us really want to be there. Somehow, if we don't want to be there Saturday, we have to work six hours either after school Friday, or work at Project Graduation this evening. I say evening, but I really mean late tonight into tomorrow morning. But, with my husband working in the morning, I can't really stay at school all night and morning with the kids, because then I would have no one to watch my child all day Saturday. So, I worked three and a half hours today after school, and then I have to go to graduation and present the National Honor Society scholarship, then stay and work Project Grad for two and a half hours so that I can make my six hours. That's what kinda sucks about working at a small school district. Oh well, I'll trade working at Project Grad any day over metal detectors and knife fights and bomb threats at school.
So, think of me tonight while you're safe at home in your bed, I'll be trying to avoid getting put in the dunking booth at Project Grad.

Dreams and Nightmares
Thank God that not all dreams come true. Lately, I have been having some rip-roarin' dreams at night when I am trying to sleep. Let me give you a few examples:
Last week, after telling my sister and husband that I didn't feel good, they both thought it would be funny to accuse me of being pregnant. I didn't think it was that funny. But apparently, my subconscience thought it would be funny to revisit that accusation. So, that night, I dreamt that I was in labor with child number 2, and that it wasn't going as smoothly as the first time. That'll make you wake up in a cold sweat. Thank God that didn't come true.
Then, this weekend, I woke up holding my hand out to my husband, demanding that he "hand it over!" I think I remember that I was dreaming about a kid at school having something they shouldn't have had, and I was trying to get it from her. Weird. That didn't come true, either.
Remember when you were dating a guy, and you dreamt that married life would be just like it is on the movie screen, and after dinner when you were cleaning up the dishes in the kitchen, a song would come on the radio and he would stop what he was doing and come over to you and dance with you in the kitchen? Well, this is the one dream that finally came true. Last night, we were cleaning up, and Jonathan was listening to his George Strait cd while cleaning dishes, and I was giving little Micheal a bath. When we met back up in the kitchen, Jonathan liked the song that came on, so he took Micheal, and the three of us "danced" on the kitchen floor. It was super sweet. This was just another reminder of how lucky I am with my wonderful husband and amazing son!
I wonder what other dreams can come true now?!?

Birthday Fun
I know that it's a week early, but I had a good reason. My parents are going on a cruise to Alaska tomorrow, and won't be back until the last day of the month. That means that they will miss little Micheal's real birthday, and I didn't want them to miss out on being there when he had cake and ice cream and opened presents, so we did it a week early.
Oh my goodness! We had so much fun! I was so proud of him! He was really well-behaved, and he shared his toys and balloons with Reid, and he didn't cling to Mommy or Daddy too much, because there were plenty of other familiar faces around that he just got passed all around and didn't get bored. The cake went everywhere, his presents all got opened, and now he can't decide which one he wants to play with! I've had to put a few of them out of sight for now, for fear that he will gyrate his little head off, going from one toy to the next and the next so quickly. I think I'll start phasing more of them in as we go along so that it's like his birthday for a couple more weeks. I wish I could do that still. Oh to be a kid again!
Most importantly, though, I am just glad that he will only have ONE first birthday, and from now on it should get easier, right? There's just something about that much family all in one place... but that's a whole different entry.

Go Down
I was surfing around on other pages and found this thing that will tell you how old my child is... it's so neat! It will also give a countdown for if you're pregnant! I couldn't fit it on the side, and I'll have to mess around to see if I can move it to the top or something, but right now, to see how old my child is, go all the way down to the bottom of my page.

Mother's Day
If anyone else asks me how my Mother's Day was yesterday, I think I am going to scream!
My husband came home from work Saturday night and told me that Micheal had forgotten to get anything for his mom for Mother's Day. (Translation: I didn't get you anything for M. D.)
I knew this was coming, because like I have said before, my husband is not Mr. Romantic, and I rarely receive gifts for any reason other than birthday or Christmas. The part I was disappointed about was that I didn't even get a card. I was really looking forward to this year's Mother's Day, because it was technically my first one. Now, I say that last year counted, too, but my husband disagreed, because Micheal wasn't born until two weeks later. So, I was hoping to be able to keep this year's card as my first Mother's Day card. Too bad.
So, I was kind of in a bad mood about it, but then I decided that I didn't need to be, because I needed to be thankful that this Mother's Day I got to spend the day being a mom, and having my child there to celebrate with me. I could think about it that there won't be that many Mother's Days where he's here with me, because when he gets older, he won't be there, and I'll hopefully at least get a phone call. Or, I could even be thankful that my child is alive, because there are plenty of moms out there that don't have that luxury anymore. So, I sucked up my disappointment and hugged my child and played with him, and gave him plenty of kisses, because I know he loves me, and that's all a mother could ask for.

Deafness
I know that I am not usually a blogger of issues of seriousness, but this morning while I was drying my hair, I was thinking these thoughts and I was wondering if anyone could answer them for me.
When I go to sleep at night we leave the door to our room and the baby's room open so that I can hear him if he cries. Then, when I wake up in the morning, I close our door and turn on the baby monitor so that I can hear him when he wakes up. This morning, I got up and got into the shower before he woke up. Right about the time I started to get ready to dry my hair, I heard him wake up and start "talking". Our baby monitors are really sensitive and I can hear him breathing at night. They also have this feature where there is a light bar that lights up with the amount of noise that the baby makes. So, while the noise of the dryer is going, I can see that he is talking, but not crying, because the noise isn't a sustained noise, just an every so often noise. This is where the thought comes in...
How do deaf parents hear their babies cry? How do hearing children of deaf parents learn how to talk when they don't have a bunch of talking noise to model their sounds after? This is just the kind of things that I think about when I am listening to the best sound in the whole world... a child learning to form words. The only other sound that is better than that is his laugh.
So, anyone else ever thought about this deaf issue or is it just me?

Faux Paux Sisterhood
I don't want to reveal my sources, but if other bloggers can make up their own secret society, I can have mine. So, if you want to be a member of the Faux Paux Sisterhood (even though it says sisterhood, I won't be sexist and will allow males in my sisterhood) then follow these instructions:
Please raise your right hand and say the following:
As a member of the Faux Paux Sisterhood, I pledge to follow The Rules when I wear sandals and other open-toe shoes:
I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps.
I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe.
I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow.
I will shave the hairs off my big toe.
I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there.
If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back in to place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. No matter how much it hurts.
I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr.Scholl's if my feet need him.
I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes at Payless for the low, low price of $4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes. This is out of concern for my safety, and the safety of others. No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat, and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.
I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin to look like Vienna sausages.
I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend/sister/coworker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes look like they've been dragged behind her car on the way to work and no sandal in the world is going to make her feet look good.
I will promise if I wear flip flops, that I will ensure they actually flip and flop, making the correct noise while walking and I will swear NOT to slide or drag my feet while wearing them.
I will promise to go to my local beauty school/parlor at least once per season and have a real pedicure (they are about $15 and worth EVERY penny). I say spend another $15.00 and get a even better one.
And finally... I will promise to throw away any white/off-white sandals that show signs of wear...nothing is tackier than dirty white sandals...
Who's with me?

S. B. - Day 6 & 7
Wednesday was more of the same, with Jonathan gone until the afternoon, and then me gone to Lufkin (yes, again) to buy new cell phones for Jonathan and I. Camera phones are cool!
Thursday was when even more fun started! We took our time getting up and ready, then packed our stuff and got everyone and their dog's stuff in the car and left out after noon to head to Dallas to see Jonathan's parents.
Once we got there, I was in the backseat with Micheal, trying to keep him happy with snacks. Jonathan pulls up into the driveway, comes to get Micheal out of his seat, and then closes the door and walks in his parents' house and closes that door, too! All the while, I'm sitting in the car thinking, "Oh my God! I can't believe he just left me here!" So, I took my time and got my stuff together and then went in the house to find my son with his grandmother (Won't see him again until we leave!) and my husband snacking on some piece of meat with his dad! Lordy mercy, my husband sure is thoughtful! His excuse was that he was dropping off the baby so that he could come back out and help me. And, he thought I was right behind him. BULL - ONEY! So, as penance, I made him unload the car by himself. (Big whoop).
And so begins the adventures at In-Law Land!

S. B. - Day 5
Tuesday was truly a red letter TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT kinda day!
At nine a.m., I walked in the doors of Giving Tree Cottage for a redemption of the gift certificate package Jonathan got me for Valentine's Day. He decided that someone else pampering me was his idea of pampering me. I adore my husband for many things, but romance is not one of them (He is no Roger!).
Anyway, I walked in and was escorted to the whirlpool spa, where I soaked myself for about twenty minutes. It was fabulous! The only concern I had was that this spa is in a room with windows, and they face the back of the building next door. At one point, a car pulled up and I watched as a woman got out of the driver's seat and then opened the back door and began to unload about five bags of stuff. Then this guy walks up next to her and looks my way! All the while I'm thinking, "I know how she feels, she has all those bags, and he's just standing there!" Then she goes to the store's back door to unlock the gate and go in, and he's still standing there offering NO HELP!
As I'm sitting there beginning to fume for her, I realize that he's still looking my way and I start to get REALLY nervous that these windows may actually work like windows are supposed to work, and that he may be able to SEE ME!
HOLY CRAP! He's probably thinking, "What kind of person sits in a hot tub at 9:30 inthe morning?!?" So, I tried to duck down in the water as low as I could go. Then I waited for them to go in, counted to ten (to make sure he wasn't coming back out) and then I got out and dried off so as to get away from the window.
From there, I was taken to a room and had a body polish. This was where she rubbed a kind of salt mixture all over me, which felt kinda weird. Then, I showered it all off, and immediately felt soft all over!
Then, I was taken to another room where she gave me a scalp treatment, which is really just a full twenty minutes of someone rubbing my head and playing with my hair. At one point, I had thoughts of a few friends of mine that would REALLY like to trade places with me. TOO BAD! Maybe I'll have to buy them a gift certificate for their birthdays or something!
Once she finished with my head, she started the Hot Stone Massage. Now, if you're an avid getter of massages, then you have something to compare this to and it makes understanding this a little easier. I'd never before had a Hot Stone Massage, and I was really looking forward to it. She laid rocks behind my back, in my hands, between my toes, and use them in her hands during the massage. It was a unique experience.
That being said, if you are trying to decide on whether or not to spend the extra to get the stones added to your routine massage, my vote says save the money, or use it towards a scalp treatment.
The last part of my package was a spa pedicure. This being the Giving Tree and all, I thought there would be SOMETHING special about it, but sadly, I was disappointed in the "extras." Don't get me wrong... the pedicure was great! She didn't cut me or peel off too much dead skin and make me bleed or make my toenails funny angles, none of that! I even got to stick my feet in hot paraffin wax! But, when she rang me up at the end, I think the pedicure alone was almost $50, and it will be the last time I spend that much on someone touching my feet.
All in all, the feeling was amazing, and when I walked out the doors of Giving Tree Cottage at 12:35 p.m., I felt extremely relaxed, and TAKS- worry FREE!
Now that's what I call a vacation!

S. B. - Day 2 - 4
Saturday was a morning at school babysitting two kids that have missed too many days of school. Then the rest of the day was spent hanging out with Melinda and Micheal.
Sunday I blogged again because it was a do-nothing day, just the way I like them.
Monday I spent the day with Micheal and his daddy and we went running errands and then to Lufkin to go to Target (sounds like Tar-Shay) . At Academy we found pool toys for Micheal and a bike for me and a bike seat for Micheal. Now we can take bike rides together as a family.
I'm so excited!

Spring Break - Day 1
Well, I'm already starting off by cheating with the title that is similar to one I've used before and stolen from my sister. I promise, thought, that my version of Spring Break and her action-packed version are completely different. I also know that I have put tidbits of information since last Friday, but there are some funny things I omitted that just have to be revisited.
Friday - out of school early, then cleaned the pool until Melinda and friend got there... You knew that. The part I completely forgot to share was when my sister decided she needed a chair to lounge on in the sun before she went swimming. I pointed to where the chairs were, and thought I'd go get them, because I knew that they had been sitting there in that same spot since we'd moved in November. And, being that we live out in BFE, I was praying that there wouldn't be huge bugs or snakes under or in them.
But, before I could voice any of these concerns to my not-country-friendly sister, I hear a gasp followed by a scream from my sister, and I'm thinking that my fears have been confirmed. Thankfully, though, it wasn't a snake or bug. Instead, to my sister's dismay, the first chair she picked up vomited all over her. Yes, I said vomited. She was covered from shoulder to knee in dirty grey/black rainwater that had pooled up in the arm of the chair. God forgive me, all I could do was laugh. Luckily, she laughed too, after we hosed her off.
But, it all ended well with all 5 of us in the water, enjoying every bit of it.

Here goes!
Now that I am back from my Spring Break, you now get to be subjected to the thoughts I had while on vacation. It may take me a while to get it all out there! Here goes!
